CHAPRAMARI WILDLIFE SANCTUARY
Chapramari Wildlife Sanctuary, situated in West Bengal's Dooars region, stands as one of the state's oldest wildlife reserves, celebrated for its rich biodiversity and captivating landscapes. Located in the Jalpaiguri district near the Eastern Himalayan foothills, it shares borders with the Murti River, separating it from the renowned Gorumara National Park. Encompassing approximately 9.6 square kilometers, it boasts dense forests dominated by sal, teak, and tropical trees, providing a haven for diverse wildlife. Established officially as a sanctuary in 1998, with recognition as a forest reserve dating back to 1895, it hosts significant populations of Indian elephants and gaurs, alongside leopards, sambar deer, wild boars, and various reptilian and amphibian species.
